That's my dad. A calm, cool, collected guy, a brilliant physician, logical thinker, loving father, world-class leader, and my hero.
But he wasn't sure about this.
"Oh," said I, "That's ultimate freedom..."
He just squinted his eyes and shook his head and laughed. I love that look...

Abandon...
Huge word. But I've never been much of a fan.
I take after my father, actually. At least when it comes to the "three C's." And especially the last one-- collected.
I mean, abandon sounds way too much like out of control to me.
Right?
Right.
Hold that thought.
My Master has asked me to trust Him.
And to abandon my life to His grace...
"Serious?"
"Serious."
"Alllllrighty then."
And I've found out there's something that people who tenaciously cling to their own lives and their own crutches will never understand.
And that something is freedom.
Too many people are afraid to live with abandon.
(Mind you, there are plenty of people who do. Care-less and careless people. Not what I'm talking about.)
I mean abandoning myself.
Perhaps we worry too much about ourselves. About our footing.
Perhaps it's time we started worrying more about Him, (and His glory) and letting Him worry about us.
After all, if He groomed the jump, and sent you speeding toward it, He'll make Himself responsible for the landing.
In the mean time, enjoy the flight...

Thought provoking. Abandoned...out of control, yet perfectly peaceful. Not only peaceful, but delighting in the realization that true freedom comes from being under His control. Enjoying to slopes of life. Greeting each leap as an opportunity to trust the One who put the flight in your path. Knowing He always guides your landing.
ReplyDeleteLove the video too. Was that your "Winky" production?
Such is the power of Grace!
ReplyDeleteDon't know that I'd go so far as to class the clips a "production" ;) but yes, Winky's cousin was responsible. :)
My hearts deepest desire is to live with complete abandon to Jesus Christ. But I have to admit I'm still a bit scared when the flying leaps come. My head knows His promises, but my heart longs for the sure footing.
ReplyDeleteOh Lord, help me to keep my eyes on you and enjoy the flight!
Reminds me of part of the song Let Your Heart Be Broken that says "In the world's great trouble risk yourself for God"... Keep the posts coming. They're such an encouragement! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the video! It made me want to go skiing!! My state has snow, but is lacking mountains...
:D it's when you land that you learn He's always holding your hand, and it reassures you that He Will be with you through any thing and every thing that is ahead.
ReplyDeleteTrusting Him is freedom and peace
What a thought, how true!
Enjoyed the video!
Plenty snow up here still, some day I will have to go skiing... :D
(may be with you guys too =) )
Thanks for sharing, Sean! Enjoyed the video! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like Big Mountain... man I miss those slopes. Great thoughts Sean. Very encouraging
ReplyDeleteOh... I just read through this post again, and those last three sentences really jumped out at me.
ReplyDelete"Perhaps it's time we started worrying more about Him, (and His glory) and letting Him worry about us."
Thanks, I really needed that one today.
